AttiCUS ROCKING CHAIR

Sketches of two rocking chairs in different styles.

Atticus was born from an aspiration to design a simple, functional rocking chair, inspired by the timeless craftsmanship of Sam Maloof’s rocking chairs. It began as a passion project, driven by the need to address a gap in the company’s product range.

Crafted in Sheesham wood, the chair features a spindled backrest with a carefully sculpted curved crest rail, carved with precision to create a light yet supportive form. The development of the rockers required multiple iterations to achieve the right balance: long enough to ensure a smooth, comfortable rocking motion without the risk of tipping, yet compact enough to keep the chair within its intended footprint.

The initial concept included a generously cushioned seat and back cushion that draped over the frame, adding an extra layer of comfort and softness to the design. Atticus remains one of my favourite projects, challenging in its pursuit of proportion, movement and comfort, but immensely satisfying to see come together in the end.
